Guildhall Windsor Wedding Photography

The Guildhall, Windsor is a beautiful wedding venue, situated in the heart of the historic town of Windsor, just a few steps away from Windsor Castle. The Windsor Guildhall is a gorgeous Grade I listed property, perfect for weddings, private dining, corporate events. And it’s used by the film and TV industry now and again too.

History of the Guildhall, Windsor

King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s marriage took place at Windsor Guildhall in 2005. The venue also hosted the civil partnership ceremony between Elton John and David Furnish. This took place on the very first day that same sex ceremonies became legal in England and Wales.

The current Windsor Guildhall was completed in 1689, the very first Guild appeared in the town back in the middle ages.  The building was designed by Sir Thomas Fitch. He sadly died before the construction works were completed. It was then completed by Sir Christopher Wren, England’s greatest architect of the day.

Once completed, the royal family gave their seal of approval by presenting the Guildhall with large canvas portraits of themselves – King William III and Queen Mary II still adorn the walls of this historic property to this day. Once this tradition was started a portrait of every monarch since has been presented to the Guildhall. Of particular interest are the huge portraits of King George V and Queen Mary. These were gifted personally by the King when he adopted the Windsor surname for the Royal family.

The Guildhall also houses the Civil Collection: these are artworks and artefacts which have been gifted by former mayors over the last 300 years. Most notable is a gilt commemorative cup celebrating the ascension of King Charles II in 1660. There’s also a set of union flags which the Windsor regiment used during the Napoleonic wars.

Photographing weddings at Guildhall Windsor

As for my favourite backdrops for photography, boy I’m spoilt for choice at this magical property! The grand interior with its huge chandeliers and giant paintings of Royalty provide the most surreal options. But the striking exterior and the surrounding cobbled side streets are incredible too! I am fortunate that the Guildhall have recommended me as a wedding photographer for the past three years.
