Great House Sonning Wedding Photography
Great House, Sonning
The Great House nestles in the gorgeous historic village of Sonning-on-Thames. Half an hour’s journey from London, it sits by the 18th Century Sonning Bridge connecting Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
Formerly the White Hart public house, the Great House Sonning was named after King Richard II’s insignia, as his wife Isabella of Valois was imprisoned at the Bishop’s Palace in the village after his death. The original parts of the building date back to the Elizabethan period.
Sonning is a quintessential English village in rural Berkshire, renowned for its tranquil charm and rich cultural heritage. This stunning village exudes an inviting atmosphere. It attracts locals and visitors alike seeking a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the real world!
The great Victorian comic masterpiece Three Men In A Boat by Jerome K Jerome features the stunning Berkshire countryside during a hilarious boating trip. He described Sonning as “the most fairy-like little nook on the whole river.”
Sonning’s most notable residents past and present include George Clooney, Uri Geller, Jimmy Page, Theresa May, Glenn Hoddle and Dick Turpin.
Classically beautiful, The Great House now boasts striking modern additions which fill the venue with natural light. Outside, private terraces and sweeping lawns overlook the river and historic bridge. This riverside venue can host a ceremonies for up to 120, and an evening reception for up to 200. It really is the most perfect wedding venue if you’re looking to get away from the madding crowd!
As for my favourite backdrops, well I loved everything about this cool hotel. But I was drawn to the magical views across the River Thames and beyond, it really was something very special. Not only were the riverside backdrops totally surreal, but the evening sunlight just lifted everything to another level during golden hour! Then when the light had faded, I floodlit the bridge over the river, capturing the image you see in this gallery of the newlyweds in the Secret Garden.
If you’re looking to get married at The Great House in Sonning, I’d love to hear from you
