Photographing weddings at Chartridge Lodge Hotel

I’ve been lucky to photograph a number of weddings over the years at Chartridge Lodge Hotel.  The gardens, in particular, are stunning!

Chartridge Lodge Hotel in Chesham sits in 25 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds. It started life as a private house inn the last century. In the 1960s, it became a dedicated training centre for the British Overseas Airlines Corporation, a forerunner of British Airways.

Chartridge Lodge becomes one of my favourite gardens in the spring each year for wedding photography. The many mature azaleas and rhododendrons in their extensive grounds make for a blaze of colour!  This spectacular sight is a match for many country manor houses during this early summer period,.

In addition, their idyllic water garden and bridge is pretty special.  In fact, I often use their lovely bridge and landscaped pond as a backdrop.  I just love the colours, majestic water-reeds and seclusion of this magical spot!

Photographing a wedding on a rainy day at Chartridge Lodge

Chartridge  Lodge is fabulous for wedding photographs should it rain in the day. This is because the many mature trees act as an umbrella for myself and the bridal party.

A recent wedding I attended was on a non stop rainy day. The couple were so disappointed to not be outdoors for their pictures. Not wanting to let this lovely couple down I hatched a plan to usher the newlyweds and their flower girls out to the nearest tree under umbrellas. The couple, their guests and the videographer thought I was a little mad venturing out in these far from ideal conditions!

Not only did they all stay dry, but the resulting images of my brightly lit portraits against the rhododendron and azalea backdrop were the absolute favourites from the day for this happy customer. Now I’ve given you some clues you should be able to spot these images on my Chartridge gallery. It was cold, damp and a little windy, but you’d never know – besides I do love a challenge!
