Castle Hotel Windsor Wedding Photography
The Castle Hotel Windsor is a fabulous wedding venue, located right in the heart of Windsor. Nearby, Windsor Castle, St. George’s Chapel and the Windsor Guildhall are just a few minutes walk away.
History of the Castle Hotel
The Castle Hotel started out in life in the early 1500s as The Mermaid Inn. The establishment brewed beer and cider for the people of Windsor. At the time Windsor was a small town of just over 1,000 people. During the 1700s the resident innkeeper was awarded the first of the hotel’s eight Royal Warrants. As the population of Windsor grew, the hotel expanded to become one of the finest places to stay in the Royal Borough of Berkshire.
Come the 19th century, The Castle Hotel had established its reputation. It provided some of the finest accommodation in the area. The hotel was very popular among the wealthier travellers of the day. Even the Duke of Wellington dined here after his victory over Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo.
As one of the grandest buildings in Windsor, it is clear to see why the aristocracy played such a significant role in its history. The hotel holds eight Royal Warrants, demonstrating its links to the British monarchy. Today, The Castle Hotel retains this reputation.
In more recent times, Sir Ian McKellan is known to have stayed at the hotel. He enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel while performing Hamlet at the nearby Windsor Royal Theatre.
Photographing Weddings at the Castle Hotel – Windsor
I’ve only ever photographed this one wedding at The Castle Hotel in Windsor, but this wonderful hotel and its fabulous setting blew me away!
Not only are there endless photo opportunities inside and outside the hotel, but everywhere in the historic town centre is gorgeous too. Windsor at Christmas time puts on a spectacular show. I captured my favourite images at dusk in the historic centre with the newlyweds. From the old railway station, to the castle entrance, to the Guildhall, everywhere looked so Christmassy and dramatic!
If you love my work and you’re planning your wedding at The Castle Hotel, I’d love to hear from you
